These modes can react to any sound, not just the synth. Run npx microfreak-viz from the repo to open the standalone visualizer, then point it at your mic or system audio from Spotify or YouTube.
Click Connect MicroFreak (MIDI), then play. Keys light up on the panel and your notes scroll here live. (The audio waveform needs a USB audio interface, added once you have one.)
Notes fall onto the keys they're played on. Learn waits for each note; Run is timed. Keys A S D F G H J K or tap a key; MIDI counts too.
Arrow keys change mode, Esc exits. Play a song (or your MicroFreak) to drive the visuals.
🛠️ Advanced: chords, modulation, saving, MIDI
- Chords (paraphonic): hold up to 4 keys before releasing to store a chord on one step (set the synth to Paraphonic).
- Two patterns A & B live in one preset and share one length, set in Utility ▸ Preset ▸ Seq length (4–64 steps).
- Modulation tracks: up to 4. While step-recording, turn a knob to record that change per step. Clear with Oct|Mod + Hold.
- Spice & Dice (Arp section): Dice randomizes the sequence; Spice adds variation.
- Saving: a sequence is stored with its preset. Save the preset and the sequence comes with it. Save overwrites the chosen slot.
- Initialize a preset: press the Preset encoder 3× quickly to reset the working patch to a blank “Init” (then Save to overwrite a slot).
- Erase a sequence: hold the A (or B) Seq icon and press Hold until the blinking stops; repeat for the other pattern. (Shift + A/B reloads the last-saved version.)
- Clear a mod track: tap Oct | Mod until that track blinks, then hold Oct | Mod + press Hold.
- Computer MIDI: class-compliant USB (no driver). Keep Local On, set the MIDI input channel, use Paraphonic to receive chords.
